Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers
PARCC is an online assessment tool that will replace the NJASK Language Arts and Math standardized test and the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in the 2014-2015 school year. This computer-based assessment is designed for students in grades 3-11 and gives students the opportunity to test using multiple technology platforms, including desktops, mobile devices, and lap tops. The PARCC assessment is aligned to the common core standards that have been adopted in the State of New Jersey. The test relies on student's ability to think critically and solve problems rather than memorize and recall facts. The PARCC online assessment offer states the ability to expose students to a variety of question formats including questions with the use of video, audio, and images. The math component of the assessment provides students with the ability to use multiple math tools, including calculators, rulers, protractors, fraction models, and more to complete multiple choice and open-ended questions.
There are two components to the PARCC assessment, the Performance Based Assessment (PBA), given 75% of the way through the school year and the End of Year Assessment (EOY), given 90% of the way through the school year. Each assessment is designed to give teachers and district decision makers a true idea of how students are progressing throughout the school year. Each district is given a 20 day window to complete each of the respective tests in their schools.
